in Just- (Complete Poems 27)
MS Am 1892.5 (270), Houghton Library, Harvard University, Used with Permission, Copyright © by the Trustees for the E.E. Cummings Trust. EEC made probably made this draft in the fall of 1916 or winter of 1917, when he was experimenting with "wide" formats of his poems. The final version appeared in the Dial [“in Just-” The Dial 68 (May 1920): 580]. [Note by Michael Webster.]

Here is an example of a poem that went from a conventional free verse stanzas to a "wide" stair-stepped version and then partially back to a (sort of) stanzaic final version. Kennedy reprints the version EEC wrote in the spring of 1916 for Briggs' course, "English Versification" (Dreams 97) This typescript [Houghton 1823.5 (165)] is reproduced in Kennedy's EEC Revisited (27). This image reproduces the reverse side of the "in Just-" draft, which I think has nothing to do with "in Just-" since it reproduces some of Cummings experiments with vowel sounds, also around autumn 1916 (see Kennedy, Dreams 121 and Cohen PoetandPainter 218-225).
