Here is an example of a poem that went from a conventional free verse stanzas to a "wide" stair-stepped version and then partially back to a (sort of) stanzaic final version. Kennedy reprints the version EEC wrote in the spring of 1916 for Briggs' course, "English Versification" (Dreams 97) This typescript [Houghton 1823.5 (165)] is reproduced in Kennedy's EEC Revisited (27).
